The Name Warao
The Warao are an Indigenous people primarily from the Orinoco Delta in Venezuela, with a long history of migration to Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname. Known as the Boat People for their deep relationship with the water, they have lived in the Orinoco Delta for thousands of years and in Trinidad for centuries.
The name Warao Consulting was chosen as it represents the first people of this region who have survived colonialism, along with sickness, enslavement, and indentureship. The name marks where this work is grounded and reflects the struggle and brilliance of the people who made this region what it is today.
Like the Warao who have navigated the waters of these small island developing states for thousands of years, Warao Consulting represents specialists drawn from this region, whose skills flow throughout the world while operating at international standards in a sustainable manner with respect for the environment.

A former United Nations diplomat with over 30 years in social and economic development across the Caribbean and the United States, Aurora Noguera-Ramkissoon served as Head of Office and Liaison Officer for UNFPA's Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean in Trinidad and Tobago, where she advanced sexual and reproductive health, gender equity, and the integration of population issues into regional development agendas. Her expertise spans research, capacity development, strategic planning, and programme and project management, with extensive work in HIV, gender analysis, and statistical systems.
